Music Group & Alternative Rock Band Bio

An alternative rock band that was formed in London, England in 1998, Coldplay comprises of 4 musicians, Chris Martin, Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman and Will Champion. Since the group's formation, Coldplay has seen tremendous commercial success with over 50 million albums sold worldwide.

The group's success began with the release of the single "Yellow". Shortly after releasing the single they released their debut album called Parachutes. 2 years later they released their second album called Rush of Blood to the Head. This second album saw tremendous commercial success and included the hit singles: "Clocks" and "The Scientist". Rush of blood to the head won multiple awards including the Grammy for Best Alternative Album. Rush of Blood to the head has sold more than 11 million copies worldwide.

The group's third album, X&Y also saw great commercial success. It included the hit singles: "Speed of Sound", "Fix You", "Talk" and "The Hardest Part". X&Y was the best selling album of 2005 with of 10 million copies sold worldwide. The group's fourth album called Viva La Vida was released 3 years after X&Y in 2008 and produced the hit singles: "Viva La Vida", "Violet Hill" and "Lovers in Japan". "Viva La Vida was the first single produced by Coldplay that reached #1 in both the US and the UK. Before the year was through, Coldplay released a follow-up album to Viva La Vida called Prospekt's March and includes the hit single "Life in Technicolor II".

Coldplay's music is classified as alternative rock and has often been compared to other rock bands such as U2, Radiohead and Oasis. The band continues to see great commercial success and is currently touring on their Viva La Vida Tour.
